Week 2 as a family of four

As I have been feeling better and more ready to venture a little farther afield (meaning beyond our little yard), we have taken on some little family of four adventures.  It has been nice to get out of the house a bit and get Dahlia back to some semblance of the life she was used to before Reier arrived.  We have been to a few local parks, the pediatrician's office (just for a check up), and Dahlia and I took a special girl's only trip to the drugstore to get special bandaids for her.

Overall, we are all doing really well, considering how huge of a transition it is to add another child to the family.  Dahlia has been having some difficulty with the time and energy we now have to devote to Reier that was once all for her, but every day is easier and my friends with two children all tell me that the 6 week mark is the sweet spot when things will be more settled and less chaotic for everyone.

Speaking of little Reier, we weighed him at his 2 week check up with the midwife today and found out he is already 8 lbs 15 oz!  He has surpassed his birth weight by over half a pound.  What a good little eater he is.  He is also sleeping well (or as well as one would expect a 2 week old to be sleeping) and really only gets mad when he is being changed.  So far, Reier seems to be a very relaxed and snuggly baby, preferring to be held by Nathan or I, though he does let us set him down when he is asleep, and occasionally while he is awake.  He has done very well in the car on the few short trips we have taken, which is such a blessing since Dahlia was a serious car seat hater and screamed on every trip for 4 months.

Enjoy the photos!

Snuggling in their undies before bedtime.  We aren't able to use our lovely cloth diapers yet because Reier's little belly button is not quite healed up yet.

Reier relaxed and stretched out once Dahlia wasn't running circles around him on the bed.

Reier's first ride in the car...Dahlia was telling him that "the car is fun!"  Magically, he chilled out as soon as it started moving.

Our first outing as a family of 4.  We went to the beach and I sat and leaned against a log with Reier in the sling and watched Nathan and Dahlia dig in the sand.

Working so hard to look up at me.

He takes a lot of naps on the couch like this. He is a happy side-sleeper if he is propped up.

Dahlia loves to "hold his little bitty hand." And notice the ballet shoe she gave him to play with.  (Sorry this picture is sideways.)

We gave Reier his first bath in the sink and he seemed to really like it.  He was quite mad about being naked but calmed right down when he hit the water.
